Looking for a bright, citrus-forward twist on a classic cocktail? The Lemon Burst Whiskey Sour is a bold yet balanced drink that’s perfect for any season. This cocktail packs a refreshing punch.

Ingredients

For the cocktail

  • 2 oz whiskey
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz lemon simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • lemon slice (brûléed )

For the lemon simple syrup

  • 4-5 lemons
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice

Instructions

For the lemon simple syrup

  • Zest the lemons until you have approximately 3 tablespoons of lemon zest. In a bowl, rub the lemon zest and granulated sugar together to release the lemon oil for more flavor.
  • In a saucepan, whisk the lemon zest and sugar mixture with the lemon juice.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved completely. Remove from heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  • Let cool and then transfer to a glass jar or other airtight container. Store in the fridge.

For the cocktail

  • In a cocktail shaker, add whiskey, Cointreau, lemon juice, lemon simple syrup, and egg white. Shake for 30 seconds without ice. Add ice and shake for another 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a brûléed lemon.
  • Brûléed lemon: Add a small amount of sugar on top of a thin slice of lemon. Using a kitchen torch, torch the sugar until it has begun to caramelize.
